Scientists chapter 1 pages 1-8

Chapter 1: Engagement
Vasper woke. She was cold in sweat in her awakening from her horrible nightmare. She had died in the engagement before going to the town. The town where her kind could roam, free from the scientists. No more tests, at all. The engagement is where they meet the opposing team and put their dream-training to the test in a battle to the death. Miszi looked at her, taking her sweating and shaking body for anticipation.
"Vas, you can't wait either?"
Vasper staid quiet. Miszi took that as a 'yes', and started singing the last nights gossip about the engagement.
"So Tayto, you know, the newbie? He's in the male sleeping quarters. Tay is picked for his engagement four years early! I mean, can you believe that? Tayto is nine years old. He will be killed before his match comes out!!!"
Vasper vaguely listened to Miszi. Instead she thought about last nights training. In her sleep, they gave her a new experience. In it they gave her an image of Miszi, Zander, who was some wolf she thought handsome, and Lyla, who is her closest blood relative, laying at some stranger with black hair's feet. She had reacted strangely, or so she thought, for she leapt upon the murderer and told him to say he was sorry. He did. Then Vasper let him go. Is that usual for a teen werewolf?
Suddenly she was snapped out of a daydream land when she heard
Miszi say 'Zander'.
"WHATZA SAYBOUT HIM?" Vasper exclaimed, the words battling their way out of her mouth. Miszi stared at her with her peculiar yellow eyes,
"Come again?"
Vasper straightened her thoughts and repeated,
"What did you say about Zander?"
"Nothing important, except he has his engagement after lunch."
Vasper quickly pulled on her grey soft hoodie,
"Miszi," she shouted, "hurry up and get dressed!!!"
.                     .                       .
After breakfast the went out to experience some of the taste of life in the Town. Everyone got to shop for their own clothes, instead of the usual scientist's pick, eat ice cream, burgers, and slurp sodas and smoothies. Before lunch they found Lyla in the toy-store staring at a stuffed animal wolf. Seeing Vasper, Miszi, and Zander, who ended up tagging along, beckoned them in. Pointing to the various collection of stuffed animal dogs, bones, and wolves, she asked,
"Do you think we really look like that?"
Miszi started bubbling,
"Supposing you are talking about neither dog nor bones, I suppose it depends on your personality. Vas for example may think-"
Vasper stopped the endless flow of uncontrolled speech by putting her hand on Miszi's mouth.
"No." Vasper told her, "we are fierce, with strong muscular bodies and legs, and our eyes are not that large."
Lyla seemed to sigh in relief,
"Good. They creep me out."
Vasper released her grip on Miszi's volcano. Miszi was an okay friend, but she coated everyting in sugar. Vasper wondered if she would faint. She bared her teeth in silent laughter and thought, she would probably do so, her dream-training is nothing but butterflies.
"What are you laughing about?" Zander asked.
Her emotions bubbled into admiration, love, and embarrassment. If she was in wolf-form, her tail would be tucked.
She waited till Miszi was out of range and whispered the secret to him. He bared his teeth in silent laughter with her.
"Hey you tail twisters1! Come over here, they have the order posted!"
Vasper felt her heart pump a little bit faster. Lyla looked a bit sad that her luxury was put to a sudden stop. Zander quickly turned into a wolf, a little rash because it was against the rules. Carefully scanning around for the controllers, also known as officers, she raced off after Zander.
She was listed first. Zander was tenth, and Miszi was eleventh. She wanted to see her friends before she fought, but now she wouldn't have to worry about being the only one to survive out of all her friends if she died. Her match's name was Xavier. He was male. She wished she knew what speices he was so she could request to sleep dream-train against his kind. Then she silently growled, she had to get ready, it was almost lunch time. There wasn't any time for dream-training at all.

1- refers to lovers.
